Rishi Sunak still looks set to pass legislation through parliament for his ‘Windsor’ deal with the EU tomorrow, despite opposition from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). A major revolt amongst backbench Conservative MPs looks unlikely. The DUP could still refuse to participate in the Stormont power sharing institutions, so dysfunctional politics in Northern Ireland may continue. However, the key point is that a breakdown in EU/UK relations on the Northern Ireland protocol now looks remote, so the threat that the existing Brexit trade deal could unravel has passed.
