Ireland looks set to run a budget surplus in 2018 for the first time in a decade. November’s exchequer returns showed a surge in corporate tax revenues, now likely to exceed €10bn in 2018 versus the €9.6bn pencilled into October’s Budget 2019 projections. This should eliminate the €315m government deficit that had been forecast, even with some additional overspending in December.
